I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, which currently has a T5750 (SLA4D) processor which doesn’t have hardware virtualization. I’m thinking of upgrading to a T7800 (SLAF6) which does have hardware virtualization. Does my BIOS have to have support for hardware virtualization for me to be able to use it, or will it work with any BIOS?

Yes, you will need BIOS support in order to run a virtual machine.

Not to mention upgrading the processor is usually impossible. So if I were you, I would do some research and make sure the CPU can be taken out without replacing the motherboard along with it. Or open it up yourself, unseat the heat sink and check to see if you can get the processor off (only do this if you have thermal compound to reapply to the heat sink before putting it back on).
